By European Champion Cracksman, the highest-rated son of Frankel, Valedictory has been mixing with the likes of Wine Dark Sea, Hopewell Rock and Small Fry, all of whom have legitimate claims in Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup. Ratings wise, our gelding isn’t far off those horses for a fraction of their cost, and with room for improvement.

Barring a brutal 3600-metre affair last start, this sound, tough, straightforward galloper has been wonderfully consistent throughout his career, racing almost exclusively on dry and firm tracks. He’ll come to Australia and win some nice staying races on a path to the Cups next year.
