The Inglis Ready2Race Sale 2026 heads to Sydney following a $400,000 Showtime colt topping Monday’s Magic Millions Horses in Training Sale on the Gold Coast.

The colt, bound for Hong Kong, led an auction that recorded a higher median price despite lower turnover. Attention now turns to Riverside Stables, where the Inglis Ready2Race Sale is scheduled to begin at 11 am AEDT on Thursday, 15 October, with 321 horses catalogued.

Buyers will have the Gold Coast results to consider as they assess Sydney’s offering, including strong demand for selected young prospects, overseas participation and purchases by Australian connections.

Showtime Colt Tops Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale at $400,000

Bridle Bloodstock secured the Showtime colt out of Mileyva from Nolen Racing’s draft after he recorded the fastest pre-sale breeze, covering 200 metres in 10 seconds on the Gold Coast course proper.

Representing the Hong Kong buyer, Apollo Ng highlighted the colt’s stride. The youngster is expected to receive further education at Muskoka Farm before continuing his preparation for a racing career overseas.

Hong Kong is an established destination for Australian racing bloodstock. According to AgriFutures Australia’s thoroughbred breeding industry research, Hong Kong accounted for an estimated 25 per cent of Australian bloodstock exports for racing purposes in 2022–23.

First-season sire Stronger also attracted buyer interest.

First-season sire Stronger also attracted buyer interest. TTR Australia & NZ reported that nine of his progeny sold for a combined $644,000, the highest sire aggregate at the auction.

His leading lot, a colt out of Urban Jewel, sold to Amy Feng for $280,000.

The Machine Gun’s Half-Brother Sells for $250,000

Nolen Racing also sold a Russian Revolution colt out of Don’ttelltheboss to Ciaron Maher Bloodstock for $250,000.

The colt is a half-brother to The Machine Gun, whose return in Saturday’s Roman Consul Stakes brought attention to the family ahead of the auction.

The Machine Gun finished sixth in that race, while his younger sibling subsequently attracted a $250,000 bid at Monday’s sale.

Gold Coast Sale Results: Higher Median, Lower Turnover

Magic Millions’ immediate post-sale figures showed a median price of $50,000, up from $39,000 the previous year. Clearance also improved to 72 per cent, compared with 68 per cent.

The average price rose slightly to $74,090, although overall turnover fell as fewer horses changed hands.

The preliminary results were:

Sale measureReported result
Top price$400,000
Median price$50,000
Average price$74,090
Clearance rate72%
Horses sold83
Total turnover$6,149,500

The figures suggest firmer demand through the middle of the Gold Coast market, despite fewer completed sales. The top price was also below the previous year’s $550,000.

These results provide a market reference ahead of the Sydney auction, although differences in the catalogues and buyer participation will influence the outcome at Riverside.

Inglis Ready2Race Catalogue Features 321 Horses

The Sydney offering includes 111 lots out of black-type performers or producers, along with siblings to Group 1 winners Private Life, Communist, Tashi and Captivant.

First-crop representatives of Anamoe, Artorius, In The Congo and Diatonic feature alongside established sire lines.

According to Inglis, 232 of the catalogued horses were purchased at auction specifically for the Ready2Race Sale.

Breeze-ups were conducted at Warwick Farm, Taupo and Wangaratta, giving prospective buyers footage to review alongside horse inspections, pedigree updates and veterinary information.

This opportunity to assess horses after their initial education is a key feature of the ready-to-run market. Breeze-up footage and veterinary assessments provide additional information for buyers comparing young racing prospects.

For prospective owners weighing up their purchasing options, Thoroughbred Sales’ guide to choosing between a ready-to-run horse and a yearling explains the practical differences.

Those considering horses outside the auction ring can also explore ready-to-run two- and three-year-olds or investigate racehorse shares and syndicates for shared ownership opportunities.

Sydney Ready2Race Sale Puts Buyer Demand to the Test

The Gold Coast results provide an early indication of buyer demand for breeze-up horses, particularly through the middle of the market.

Attention now turns to the Inglis Ready2Race Sale, where a 321-horse catalogue featuring first-crop sires, established bloodlines and Group 1-winning families offers another test of demand for educated young racehorses.

The Sydney results will show which prospects attract the strongest bidding and how buyers value the latest ready-to-run offering.
