Satono Aladdin has made a remarkable start to his career at stud and looks like being ‘one out of the box’. From two crops of racing age he’s had 73 runners, eight of which are stakes-winners, representing a figure off 11% stakes winners to runners, which is remarkable by anyone’s standards. Added to this is the fact the eight stakes-winners don’t even factor in what are probably two of his most promising gallopers in Japanese Emperor and Bozo. This is why we were so keen to secure one of his progeny this week.

This colt, out of the winning Proisir mare Speed Of Light, in our opinion was the equal of any of his colts in the sale, albeit a little less mature. His filly out of Inthespotlight (Lot 144) was probably superior however her price tag of $900k rendered her beyond our means. Additionally, this colt’s pedigree on the female side is light on due to a) being the mare’s first foal and b) his second dam only having the one foal, this colt’s dam. If you look at his third dam however, she had five to the races for five winners including Karaka Millions winner Ockham’s Razor and stakes winner Jungle Juice. His fourth dam, Caricatura won two races in the USA and produced a number of high quality gallopers in Japan.

So, all of the above said we feel this colt was a real bargain based on his relative immaturity and light pedigree, neither of which are going to hold him back if given the requisite time. He’s a lovely colt, a real improver, with great presence and is a superior mover. Once he catches up a bit physically he’s going to develop into a lovely colt.

The colt will stay at Hallmark Stud in NZ for the next 6-8 weeks prior to being flown to Australia to commence his breaking preparation.
