2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Purchase
Horse Overview
Purchased at the 2023 Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale.
I had two horses on my shortlist for Day 1 and was pleased to secure both of them early in the day. Lot 27 was the first Zousain yearling sold, and what a start. She is an outstanding filly.
We had a plan to buy early before the heat worked its way into the market and came away with the filly we wanted.
Standing at Widden Stud, who also stand he’s sire Zoustar, his yearlings proved to be well sought after. They were excellent types, and there is a real ‘buzz’ about the stallion. He finished the sale with an average of $228,800 from 25 yearlings sold.
That makes this filly great value at $100k under the average. Gai Waterhouse went to $650,000 for her filly out of Sheila’s Star. I felt that the filly we purchased was its equal on type.
She is from a strong female family. Her dam is a sister to A City Girl, who has produced Listed winner and Group 3-placed LACED UP HEELS, the only horse in the country to defeat subsequent Group 1-winning filly AMELIA’S JEWEL.
A City Girl is also the dam of our 2yo Toronado colt, who we love. Group 1 winner MIZZY also features prominently in the pedigree. She was by Zoustar, meaning our filly is bred on very similar lines. She consistently raced at the top level, winning five races, four at Group level.
This filly was purchased from Tyreel Stud. A farm that consistently produces quality horses. The likes of The Everest winner CLASSIQUE LEGEND, four-time Group 1 winner MONTEFILIA, dual Group 1 winner BEHEMOTH, and Group 2 and Group 3-winning sire TIGER OF MALAY.
Some of the best judges have bought up on Zousain including Guy Mulcaster/Chris Waller, Mick Price, Tony McEvoy, Gai Waterhouse and David Ellis amongst others.
You know how much we like the family of this filly and believe in its future development.
