April 25, 2023No Comments

The path to becoming a thoroughbred trainer was set out for Mark from a young age. Horses were very much a part of his life. His family was actively involved in breeding and showing Arabian horses.

Mark began working in racing for South Australian trainer Brian Murphy, and from the beginning Mark could see his path set out for him, he was to become a thoroughbred trainer. He enjoyed his time with Brian, learning the trade and working with some excellent horses such as, Durbridge who won six group races.

Brian Murphy retired from training, and it was this change that led to Mark taking the next step in his journey to apply for his trainer’s licence in 1992.

Mark embraced his life as a trainer, enjoying working with the thoroughbred and the challenge of winning races. He took a break from the world of racing for a six month period in 2008 to spend important time with his family.

Mark returned to full time training in 2009 and believes the reprieve reinvigorated him and, in Mark’s opinion, he returned a better trainer for it.

Mark considers his training style to be a more laid back approach and those that know him appreciate his genuine, easy to get along with attitude. He respects his horses and his owners and prides himself on his approachability.

Mark’s background in showing is also prevalent in his racehorses. Horses trained by Mark Minervini are always well presented.

With this careful attention to detail, his approachable and easy going manner and his passion for racing, Mark is considered one of the country’s most respected trainers.

Mark will continue to race horses and strive for the thrill of success for many years to come.
