About Us.

Tony lives and breathes thoroughbred racing and has done so from a very young age. As an apprentice Jockey in 1975 McEvoy rode more than 100 winners over a short period of time before his weight got away from him. Coming from a riding background has really helped Tony hone his skills as a trainer and continues to attribute to his ability to find quality horses.

McEvoy Mitchell Racing was formed in 2011 when Tony was approached by Melbourne businessman Wayne Mitchell to become his partner and Head Trainer of Lindsay Park ‘Raceside’, now known as ‘Kildalton Park’. The stables success has been building since then and all strategies put in to place are proving to pay dividends.

MMR Difference.

At McEvoy Mitchell Racing our operation is totally vertical. Our horses are under our care 24/7 from the moment the hammer falls.

All of our yearlings are selected via a very detailed process, which begins by us visiting all the major farms months before the sale.  Once they get to the sales venue, we will have inspected the yearlings several times to formulate our potential top lists.  This is based on type, a detailed pedigree page and an experienced eye.  All aspiring yearlings are then thoroughly health checked by our vets; our budget is formulated, then it’s over to bidding.

Once successfully acquired, all yearlings are then transported to ‘Kildalton Farm’ on the Murray River and placed under the care of our world class horse educator Warren Sutton. During their education Tony regularly visits the farm to assess each and every horse’s progress. Upon completion of Warren’s process the yearlings are ready to start their racing lives with the teams at Angaston and Flemington. Your investment, at all times is under our careful watch. Rest assured that we are passionate and caring for all of our horses every step of the way.

Each individual horses race program is tailored and formulated by Tony himself. It’s the part of racing he most enjoys. The programming of Sunlight’s journey to the 2018 Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast received great praise from within the industry and it was well deserved.

There is no denying that Tony is ‘King of the Kids’ with the sustained success the stable is having with our two year olds season after season. As we continue to fine tune our system it really bodes well for even more exciting times ahead.
