Talented Zoustar mare MIZZY bounced back to form in emphatic fashion at Randwick yesterday, breaking the $1.5 Million prizemoney barrier with a flying second in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes.
Further enhancing her value as a broodmare with her first Group 1 placing, MIZZY defied her lofty odds of $71 with a thrilling late surge which almost saw her defeat SAVATIANO on the line.
The result took her career prizemoney earnings to $1,576,000 courtesy of four wins and a further eight placings from 22 starts.
Trainer Anthony Cummings was proud of his mare as she attempts to add to her impressive Stakes record in next week’s $600,000 Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m).
“We were thinking she was well and truly back, her work had been very good,” said Cummings.
“She’s a very good race mare and back in form now. She goes to the Group 1 Coolmore next week and I’m sure she’ll make her presence felt again.”
Since MIZZY stormed onto the scene with three consecutive Stakes victories in the Spring of 2019, Anthony has headed to the yearlings sales looking for horses that boast similar attributes to that which she did as a yearling.
Last year, we were able to secure two athletic fillies by her sire ZOUSTAR that reminded Anthony of MIZZY.
These youngsters are now not far away from heading to the racetrack and we have limited ownership opportunities remaining.
